Details for Cassius L.f. Longinus, C. - Roman Republican moneyer

Republican moneyer who issued coins in 84 BC jointly with L. Livius Salinator (q.v.). He was Consul in 73 BC and passed the lex Terentia Cassia to buy Sicilian grain and sell it for low prices in Rome. He later fought against the slave Spartacus in Gaul but was unable to stop his revolting mass of followers. He may be the father of the famous C. Cassius Longinus (q.v.), one of the conspirators against Julius Caesar.
