The Impact of the Viking Age on the Settlement and Society of East Yorkshire

Principal investigator: Katherine Holman
Level: Personal research project

I would like to apply for research level user. I am an Associate Lecturer with the Open University, teaching history and arts modules. I have previously worked as Lecturer in Scandinavian Studies at the University of Hull, and have authored/edited books and articles on runic inscriptions and Vikings. Following my recent University of Hull BA Archaeology dissertation on the Viking settlement of East Yorkshire, I plan to further explore the PAS data for the county with a view to examining what it reveals about the impact of Scandinavian settlement (Title: The Impact of the Viking Age on the Settlement and Society of East Yorkshire). My plan is to work on the areas of interest revealed in my dissertation and to develop some conference papers, ultimately with a view to applying for a British Academy/Leverhulme Small Research Grant. Ideally I would like to apply for two or three years' access, as this work will be undertaken on a part-time basis, while also working with the Open University.
