Current Research Question: What do settlement patterns in the Roman period look like on the Isle of Wight and how reliable is our current evidence?

My dissertation will analyse the range of Roman metal finds on the Isle of Wight dating between 43 A.D. to 410 A.D. I aim to use this data from the Portable Antiquities Scheme to have a better understanding about the environmental evidence and Roman settlement distribution patterns across the island. These records will provide me with a good set of metal evidence to analyse and conduct spatial analysis on. I have discussed with my supervisor the PhD project currently being undertaken by Stephanie Smith (King's College London) and have contacted her directly to avoid overlap of effort.
