Roman Metalwork Hoards from Britain

Principal investigator: Rachael Sycamore
Level: PhD level research

I am a current PhD student at the University of Leicester investigating metalwork hoards in Britain from the Roman period. The project will use GIS analysis of all the known hoards to investigate any spatial patterning in the data and the landscape context of the deposits. The aims of this project is to investigate what a metalwork hoard is, patterns of compositoin and patterns of deposition. This will enable an investigation of how people perceived the landscape, if there were cultural rules behind the practice of hoard deposition and socio-economic attitudes towards metalwork.
