Principal investigator: Caroline Pudney
Level: Personal research project
The first project I aim to complete is an expansion of my previous Iron Age coin research - investigating the role of horses in later Iron Age societies. I want to take a bit more of a theoretical approach which looks beyond the usual associations of power and warrior elite and seeks to explore the imagery on Iron Age coins in relation to themes of animism and shamanism (building on the work of John Creighton, Adam Gwilt and Miranda Aldhouse-Green). In order to do this, I would like to set the coin data in a wider context of horse-related objects. I will seek to publish the findings in a reputable, peer-reviewed journal.
