Research into battle of Cheriton

Principal investigator: Gary Chilcott
Level: External project (UK only)

I am conducting research to positively determine the location of the battle of Cheriton in Hampshire. The battle of Cheriton, fought in March 1644, was one of the largest of the English Civil War. Although many sites for the battle have been proposed by historians and authors over the years, the site has never been confirmed. It is the largest remaining Civil war battlefield yet to be positively located. My research is part of a multi-disciplinary project including historic landscape analysis and finds interpretation. Other principal members of the project are Dr James Bonsall director of Earthsound Archaeological Geophysis and Dr Glenn Foard, Reader In Battlefield Archaeology , Huddersfield University. In order for me to play a full role in the project it is important that I have higher level access to the PAS database in order to see full details, including detailed location information,of any relevant archaeological finds in Cheriton and the adjoining parishes.
