The composition of Viking period hoards in the North-West of England

Principal investigator: Michael Beeston
Level: Undergraduate

My dissertation topic concerns the composition of Viking period hoards in the North-West of England with special consideration for the iconography of coins in these hoards. This study will review coinage from all regions during the Viking world and discuss the social, political and/or secular/ecclesiastical motivation for the designs incorporated.

I hope that through research level access to the PAS I will be able to acquire information to support my dissertation. At present, I have contacted many of the metal detecting clubs in the the North West and contacted museums associated with the with the research/ownership of 10th to 11th century coin hoards. Information gained from research level access will be used for academic purpose only.

If I can provide any more details relating to this piece of work, I will be more than happy to.

Thank you for your time in reading this request and I patiently await your response.

Yours,

Michael Beeston
