Potential of PAS data to enhance the Shropshire Historic Environment Record

Principal investigator: Charlotte Baxter
Level: Masters degree

I am undertaking a dissertation as part of my Masters in Landscape Archaeology, GIS and Virtual Environments at Birmingham University. The focus of my work will be to assess the potential of PAS data to enhance the Shropshire Historic Environment Record (HER). In particular I hope to look at prehistoric and Roman finds evidence, and their distribution in relation to cropmark enclosure sites which often remain undated or are broadly assigned to the Iron Age to Roman period. I hope to interrogate the data using GIS in order to assess whether it is possible to refine dating evidence for such sites, and also to look at the potential for identifying new sites, particularly in areas where cropmark evidence is not readily available. The work will be completed by January 2013.
