Bronze Age weapons and metal object and their distribution, with contributions to grey literature and publications

Principal investigator: Grahame Appleby
Level: Personal research project

I work for the Cambridge Archaeological Unit as a research officer and also conduct research into Bronze Age weapons and metal object and their distribution, with contributions to grey literature and publications. Currently, I am gathering data on the distribution and details on sickles attributed to the Bronze Age period and any associations with other classes of artefacts, including hoards. The aim of this research is to develop a corpus of sickles and a typology and seriation. Ultimately, the aim will be to publish this material, either within a journal or, dependant numbers and funding, as a monograph. To date, I have been provided with outline data for Cambridgeshire, Somerset and the examples held by the British Museum.
