Timings: 10:00:00 - 15:30:00
Address: National Civil War Centre, 14 Appletongate, Newark, NG241JY
Last time the event was run scores of amazing objects were brought in by metal detectorists and the general public. They included musket and cannon balls dating to the British Civil Wars and even prisoner of war art from the Second World War.
Kevin Winter, Exhibitions and Collections Assistant at the National Civil War Centre, said:
“Newark continues to produce wonderful finds. The key thing is for us to be able to identify and record objects and discover as much as we can about where they were found. That way they will no longer be lost to history.”
Many of the exhibits on display at the National Civil War Centre were found by local people. They include siege coins and seals and most famously the magnificent Iron Age gold necklace unearthed by detectorist Maurice Richardson in 2005.
The drop in event takes place from 10.30am to 3.30pm. There will also be chance to examine some of the centre's own collection and items brought in by our experts so you can get a good idea of what to look for in suspected finds.
Admission is free for those bringing finds for identification. Otherwise normal entry applies: £7 adults, £6 concessions and £3 children.
