Image labels

Image labels appear when a cursor hovers over the image. Please follow the format below, but use your common sense to keep labels short, readable and informative.

Format for coins:

Include the following data:

Period - Object Type: Denomination [of] Ruler/Authority - View (if more than one image of an object is attached) - Qualifier (in cases of uncertainty)

Examples:

  • Iron Age coin: stater of Cunobelin (obverse)
  • Iron Age coin: unit of North-Eastern region (probably)
  • Roman coin: denarius of Hadrian
  • Roman coin: nummus of 4th century emperor
  • Medieval coin: penny of Edward I (reverse)

Format for other objects (including jettons and tokens):

Include the following data:

Period - Object Class - Object Type - View (if more than one image of an object is attached) - Qualifier (in cases of uncertainty)

Examples:

  • Bronze Age socketed gouge (possibly)
  • Roman Henig type II finger ring
  • Early medieval cruciform brooch fragment
  • Medieval heraldic harness pendant (front)
  • Medieval English jetton
  • Medieval or post-medieval token
  • Post-medieval jetton: Hans Schultes of Nuremberg
