PASt Explorers Volunteer

We have an opportunity for volunteers to join the Finds Recording Team at Salisbury Museum, as part of the PAS' Heritage Lottery funded volunteer programme PASt Explorers. This position would be ideal for anyone interested in gaining experience in artefact identification, as well as photography and image manipulation of archaeological finds. It would also provide experience for anyone looking to pursue a career in heritage, museum or archaeological sectors.

As part of the Finds Recording Team, the successful candidate would:

  • Learn how to handle and record archaeological finds.
  • Learn to identify and date archaeological finds.
  • Have the opportunity to attend training days on different types of artefacts, given by the FLO and external experts.
  • Enhance your written and descriptive skills.
  • Use and further develop photographic and IT skills.

The person we would be looking for to fill this vacancy would:

  • Be enthusiastic and keen to gain experience in the areas of heritage, museum work or archaeology.
  • Have an interest in developing a knowledge of finds identification.
  • Be computer literate, and have in particular a strong understanding of computer databases.
  • Have a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Be reliable and trustworthy, and able to work without supervision.
  • Have experience with Adobe photoshop desirable, but not necessary.
