Copper alloy coin. Base metal core for a plated uninscribed South Ferriby gold stater of the Corieltauvi, cf. ABC no. 1743, Van Arsdell no. 811, Haselgrove Period 2 Phase 6, 50-20 BC. A base metal core would represent fraud were the material of the coin important to its use, though if a yellow tint was its most important attribute, probably for non-secular reasons, a copper alloy might have been appropriate. Obverse description: Apollo wreath, stick with crescents at its end with a pellet enclosed by each, fingered shape at opposite edge. Reverse description: Severely disjointed Celticised horse left, two pellets on stalks below horse, the rays from a star below horse appear next to the broken edge of flan. Diameter: 17.8mm, Thickness: 3.2mm, Weight: 4.95gms, die axis: probably 6.

copper alloy core from a British Iron Age North Eastern plated stater, c. 40-10 BC. This is a copy of an uninscribed 'Ferriby' type stater (attributed to the Corieltavi). See PAS record BH-481C12 for genuine example. See ABC (Cottam et al 2010) 1743 = VA (Van Arsdell 1989) 811 = BMC (Hobbs 1996) 3148-78. The coin's surfaces show little wear and there are traces of a black coating. There is a small amount of corrosion. The coin measures 18.9mm in diameter, 2.6mm thick and weighs 2.67g. This coin is registered as CCI 11.1084.
