Copper alloy asymmetrical double loop Medieval buckle. The buckle frame comprises a larger oval loop with a second smaller adjoining rectangular loop projecting from the pin bar. The pin bar is centrally recessed with the wrap around flat rectangular cross-sectioned pin still in situ. The pin has a square end, but this looks to be a break. Similar buckles are illustrated in Whitehead, R. Buckles 1250-1800 (2003). p87. Nos.538-541 and are dated to circa AD1350-1450.  Dimensions: length 22.8mm, width 24.0mm, weight 3.64g.

The bezel retains an upstanding circular collet or setting between expanded shoulders with an inswing as they abut the bezel; the rest of the band is lost. Fiercely abraded. The one surviving complete loop is a simple, wide, oval shape, while the second loop is largely missing.  These date to the mid-14th century onwards, see Egan and Pritchard (1991, 22, fig.11). Worn traces of finely incised diagonal lines appear on one side. Bent twice. These objects were used as hair or head-dress pins. A complete Medieval copper alloy buckle with a rectangular frame with a thickened front edge decorated with a deeply notched pin rest flanked by pairs of transverse lines. There are small casting spurs on either side of the frame. The pin is made from a pointed metal strip which is curled around the bar and has a small moulded transverse ridge at the bar. The plate is 32.7mm in length and missing its front or facing section. The rear edge is cut into a trefoil shape and has a single rivet in the centre, which remains in place.

White metal plating survives across the head, and it is only its lack from the shank which points to this being a copper alloy object with white metal plating; cf. Flixborough Type 130 or Type 310.
