Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Cambridgeshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete looped transitional palstave axehead dating to the Middle-Late Bronze Age dating from about 1250 - 950BC. The palstave is a transitional type with a deeply undercut stop. All that remains is the centre of the axehead, with the terminals of the blade and butt missing. It is encrusted with corrosion.  It has a thin butt with flanges that expand from the extant areas of the butt to the stop in a triangular shape. The tallest part of the flange is at the stop. The stop ridge is curved and forms a small socket (is deeply undercut but filled with corrosion)…

A fragment from a probable Late Bronze Age spearhead only the tip survives. It is triangular in plan being truncated by a transverse break. It is a lozenge shape in cross section and has a medium brown patina. It is 44.7mm long, 20.3mm wide, 11.2mm thick and weighs 8.30 grams. Too little of the spearhead survives to assign a type to this fragment. The light weight may imply this is also a modern rail fitting.
