A Roman ceramic rim sherd from a Black Burnished ware (BB1, from Wareham/Poole Harbour, Dorset) vessel, probably a jar, dating c. AD 100- 400. The fabric is hard and has a reduced very dark grey colour throughout. It has a fine sandy temper with very occasional quartz grit (<0.8mm) and occasional occasional micaceous inclusions. It has a very dark grey slip on the exterior which is also present on the interior surface below the rim, that above being worn away.
