An early medieval silver penny, a Danelaw imitation of Alfred of Wessex's (AD 871-99) London Monogram type dating to c.AD880-94, Mackay Danelaw Type A2 (imitating London Type A2; North 463). Ref: MacKay 2019: 91 (no.12), pl. 4 (no.69). The coin uses the same obverse die as Mackay no. 12 (pl. 4, no.69) and has a previously unrecorded reverse die. An early medieval halfpenny, an Anglo-Viking imitation of a London Monogram type of Alfred of Wessex (871-99), dating to the 880s, Mackay Type III, North 466. Refs: Mackay 2019, 52-5, cf. no 130 and 136. The coin is cracked and the edges chipped. Obverse legend: ELF RED Obverse: Diademed and draped bust left, cloak decorated with rows of pellets. Reverse: Lundonia monogram (reverse-barred N), cross pattée above and below. Dimensions: diameter: 14.45mm; weight: 0.27mm.
