A copper alloy Roman coin; a coin of Gordian III (238 - 244), struck at a Greek mint, probably Philippopolis in Thrace. It has a diameter of 15.9mm, a thickness of 1.7mm and a weight of 1.91g. See http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/sear/s2523.html for a similar obverse and reverse but from a different mint. A published example of this coin has not yet been found, but there are so many varieties of Roman and Greek Provincial coins, that this is not unusual.
