A body sherd fragment from a Gaulish samian-ware vessel dating to the Roman Period, c. AD 180-220.
The sherd is five sided and has moulded decoration consisting of what appears to be panels divided by rope twist borders. Within the panel on this sherd is a single annulet. The fabric is a dull pale orange colour with no obvious inclusions. The external and internal surfaces are coated in a red slip. This is abraded with slip worn away from the high points of the moulded decoration.

A base sherd fragment from a wheel-thrown jar or flagon dating from the Roman period, c. AD 50-410.
The sherd consists of concave base which flares out to the lower section of the vessel wall. The base interior is convex, tapering gently from the edges to the centre. The core fabric is pale grey with occasional voids and small dark inclusions. The external and internal margin fabric is an oxidised dull buff orange colour. Ceramic building material. Five small sherds of an oxidised sandy fabric with sparse white flecks to length 1.5mm, handmade roof tile fragments. The largest [of length 65mm] and smallest [of length 33.5mm] fragments show the stippling from a fine sanded bed on their undersides and preserve a thickness of 14.5mm, the largest fragment is also smoothed on its upper surface. The other fragments are too abraded to have retained any original surfaces. Suggested date: Medieval, 1200-1500

An incomplete Roman Samian ware wine cup of Dragendorff form 33 and dating to the 1st-2nd century AD. The base and around 40% of the side and rim remains. The rim is 115mm in diameter, The sides flare from a break in angle at the base and have no decoration aside from a single incised band at the mid point. The base ring is 43.3mm in diameter with a recessed interior. The fabric is light pinkish-orange with a reddish-brown slip. The centre of the base on the internal surface has the maker's stamp GIAMILIVS (second image) in a rectangular cartouche.

An incomplete Roman pipeclay figurine of Venus, dating to AD 100-250. The figurine is 118.7mm high and depicts the goddess stood completely nude while holding a garment that drapes down beside her left leg, and rests on the base next to the left foot (now missing). The deity is depicted with an elabourate hairstyle, with braids around each side of the head and gathered behind at the nape of the neck; other braids are visible cascading down to the shoulders at the sides and back. Two fragments of rim sherd of West Somerset type pottery, dating to the 16th - 17th century.
Possibly from a bowl, the fabric has sandstone inlusions, a thumbed applied strip under the rim, and an internal glaze, with an external green glaze just about visible.
A nearby production site for Medieval and Post Medieval West Somerset ware exisited at Nether Stowey, and was operational between 1250 - 1700.
