A cast or struck Medieval lead token of the Boy Bishop variety. Penny size. Boy Bishop tokens were produced from the 1480s to probably up to 1534, on St Nicholas Day and are thought by some to have been carried by sea-farers. They appear to be specific to East Anglia (Bailey 2000, Finds Identified, page 6 and figs 1, 4 and 5). The token is cream in colour.

A very worn penny token of the Flint Lead Works dated 1813. The detail of the obverse is virtually invisible (it originally depicted a view of the works of Roskell, Tipton and Company from the rear, with the stacks of the six smelting furnaces, a quay, crane and a small coasting vessel) the wording on the reverse can just be made out, it originally said 'ONE POUND NOTE FOR 240 TOKENS' around a circular central disk in which was written 'ONE PENNY TOKEN'.

'Boy Bishop' penny token, c.15.5mm diameter and 1.2mm thick, showing on the reverse a long cross with four quadrants at the centre, each containing three pellets and enclosed by a solid ring. The marginal legend reads AVE/REX/GEN/TIS. The obverse has a marginal inscription, SANCTV...NICHOLA.. surrounding a mitre, but without a ring separating the legend from the central field. In many respects it is most like Rigold 1978 Plate IX.J although the absence of the ring is a notable difference to any which he publishes.
