A copper-alloy coin, possibly a contempory copy of a base silver radiate of Gallienus or Valerian I, dating to c. AD 253-60 (Reece Period 12), [ ], unclear female standing left, holding ? and vertical sceptre. The obverse legend can be interpreted in several ways with an N or an A above the head. The large diameter of 21.87mm is unusual for later barbarous radiates and this might confirm a date to the AD 250s. Die axis: 11 o'clock.  Diameter: 21.87mm, Weight: 3.74g.

A contemporary copy of a silver radiate of Herennia Etruscilla (wife of Trajan Decius), dating to c. AD 249-51 (Reece Period 12), [PA]X AVGG, Pax standing left holding branch and transverse sceptre; to left, modius with corn ears. RIC V, pt 3 - . The coin does not appear to be plated. The obverse is of good style with reasonable lettering. The reverse, however, has slightly crude lettering and the type with a modius at Pax's feet is not a recorded type for the period.

Compare Sear number 8643 on page 120 of Volume III and RIC IV pt III, p.25 no.87. It is 19.9mm long, 16.7mm wide and 2.2mm thick. It weighs 2.29gm.

A copper alloy Roman coin; a radiate probably of Gallienus (AD 253 - 268), Joint Reign, dating from about AD 258 - 260 (Reece Period 12). Probably IOVI CONSERVATORI reverse showing Gallienus resting on a spear and receiving a globe from Jupiter, resting on a sceptre. Compare Sear Volume II, number 10242 (RIC 440). The coin is very worn and is pierced at 8 o'clock on the obverse. The hole is oval and also shows evidence of wear. The aperture is 2.8mm long and 2mm wide. The coin is 20.7mm diameter, 0.96mm thick and weighs 1.64g.
