This early Anglo-Saxon brooch consists of only the frame which is circular in plan with a sub-rectangular section. The pin is missing. There is a pin constriction with a narrowed bar within the frame to accommodate the now lost pin. The thimble has an ovate base due to distortion and slightly sloping sides which curve towards the top where they form the crown, creating a dome. A series of irregular pits extend around the top of the crown and from the base towards the crown. A faint circumferential line is present just about the lower edge. An incomplete copper alloy brooch with partial silver gilding, probably a knee brooch dating from the Roman period, c.100-200 AD. The brooch has a tubular head with a hinge mechanism to the reverse.
