A small flint core probably of Mesolithic date to Early Neolithic date (c. 8000 - 3300 BC). The object is made from a dark-grey/dark-brown translucent flint. The surface of the flint is very clear and is not covered by any white patina associated with recortication. However, there is an area of cortex remaining on the flint. The object has a sub-conical shape. It is most likely an example of a conical bladelet core. There is a single striking platform, which serves as the flat base of the cone-like object. There is also a single flaking surface that wraps around the re…

A large dark grey flint pebble, possibly a hammer stone of  Mesolithic to Bronze Age date c.8300-800 BC. The object is a large sub-circular dark grey flint pebble. There is extensive battering over the majority of the surface consisting of percussion marks and fine flake removals. There are two small areas of pale light brown cortex remaining.  Diameter: 66.43mm and weight: 326.08g.  Dating of this hammer stone is suggested from the finder by association of a reworked Mesolithic Adze and other flint…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A probable flint fabricator or rod probably dating from the early Mesolithic to late bronze-age period. Description: The fabricator is an elongated rectangle in shape and triangular in cross-section. It is made on a secondary flake with a small area of pale brown cortex at the distal end. The dorsal side bears the scars of the removal of two earlier longitudinal flakes. The bulb of percussion has been removed by retouch but there are conchoidal ripples along the full length of the ventral face. There is invasive, scaled semi-abrupt flake removal scar…

A probable Late Mesolithic microlith, scalene triangular in shape with an acute angle toward the distal tip which forms a sharp point. It appears to have a micro burin notch at the proximal tip, which seems to indicate the removal of a micro burin at this point. The microlith is made from translucent, almost transparent, grey mottled flint and the dorsal face has knap lines with ridging. The microlith has short, scaled, abrupt retouching on two edges of the dorsal face and possible very short intermittent abrupt retouching on the third edge of the dorsal face. The v…

An incomplete Prehistoric, probably Mesolithic - Neolithic bone point or awl. The bone has been carefully worked to create an D-shaped cross-section shaft that tapers gradually into a point. The shaft flattens from its mid-point towards the opposite end, which is now damaged. It appears that this end of the tool would have been rounded off, and not continued into another point (as encountered in Saxon double-ended points). The object has acquired a dark brown-black patina. The surface is covered by linear unidirectional striations and shelving-effect termination marks created by scrap…
