Gold coin. Solidus of Valentinian I (364-375), mint of Arles, issue of 364-367, Reece period 19, RIC volume 9 no. 1(b). This coin is in excellent condition, the only flaw being where the edge has been tweaked at 7 O'clock (obverse), probably to assay the material in antiquity.
Obverse description: Bust rosette diademed draped and cuirassed right.
Obverse inscription: DN VALENTINI ANVS PF AVG
Reverse description: Emperor standingright holding labarum with palm frond on its shaft and Victory on globe.

A Roman gold coin of uncertain emperor. Probably a solidus, possibly of Valens or Valentinian. The coin has been heavily worn (deliberately ?) in antiquity, removing most surface detail. It is also bent. It measures 15.6mm diameter by 0.7mm thick and weighs 1.93g.
