A lead fitting, possibly from a window. The fitting is made from a D-shaped strip of lead, with a round headed knop projecting out from the flat side of the strip. The edges are crudely cut and mis-cast. The lead is a mid brownish-white colour.

A copper-alloy latch of probable post-Medieval date. The piece takes the form of a narrow, parallel-sided strip of metal which has a cut-out on the underside of the distal end. At the opposite end is the pivot mechanism, consisting of a short axis bar with a large, sub-circular head. Adhering to this axis bar is an area of iron corrosion or mineralised organic material. The artefact is heavily corroded. It measures 109.3mm long, 21.7mm wide and 9.6mm thick (at the pivot). The weight is 17.54g.

A copper alloy object, possibly a handle from a window, door or furniture, and likely to be of Post medieval to modern date, about AD 1500 - 1900. It is solid copper alloy and is square in cross-section, tapering in thickness from a square end with slightly bevelled edges, to a slight kink where the handle measures 9.1mm wide and 6.8mm thick. Beyond the kink, which is 12mm from the end, the thickness increases again before an uneven break. The damage is patinated. The object has a smooth glossy green patina with some file marks visible. A cast copper alloy fitting - possibly a window catch or latch of unknown date - most probably post medieval or modern 1650-1850. The fitting is incomplete it is broadly rectangular in plan and an irregular wedge shape in cross section. The fitting is pierced at the widest point by a transverse hole this would have enabled the fitting to pivot. From this widest area the fitting tapers and thins being broken across the terminal / handle. From the style an early modern date is best preferred - probably 1650-1750. A cast lead alloy fitting - possibly a window catch or latch of unknown date - most probably post medieval or modern 1650-1850. The fitting is incomplete it is broadly rectangular in plan and C shaped in cross section. It tapers from one edge to the other. The upper surface has a crude rectangular hole cut through it. The reverse is damaged by the edges being forced together to form a hollow rod. From the style an early modern date is best preferred - probably 1650-1750. An incomplete Modern copper alloy window latch, dating 18th-19th century. The latch is solidly cast formed of a circular loop-section with the bit projecting off at one end and traces of another projection at the other end. There are traces of another projection above the bit. The bit is at a 90 degree angle to the loop and consists of three rectangular teeth. The loop appears to have an internally bevelled edge, caused by drilling, and is slightly squashed so that it almost D-shaped. This would have been the pivot for the latch. The object has a shank which is D shaped in section with a flat square platform at one end. beyond this, there is the remains of a broken circular perforation for attachment. Two fragments of Roman window glass. Cast window glass was probably produced by pouring molten glass into trays resulting in relatively thick panes with a characteristic flat, rough underside, a glossy, slightly undulating upper surface, frequently with tooling marks and a rounded edge (Boon 1966). A fragment of crudely made Medieval lead window vent. Weight 16.22g, surviving length 54.74mm, surviving width 54.07mm, thickness 2.43mm. The fragment shows a foliate motif similar to fleur de lis. Such window vents were in use up until the end of the 16th century and an example of a late vent can be seen at Hampton Court. This fragment could have come from a monastic building. These window vents seem to copy local monastic window tracery styles for their design, and decline in use after the dissolution of the monasteries.

A fragment of a lead lattice grille which is in the form of a sub-square with a lozenge within, the fields are all openwork. This pattern appears to be repeated on the right-side, but only a fragment of the panel remains. There is another fragment of a panel on the left-side which appears to have been soldered together on the reverse. The strands of the lattice are all triangular in section. Rectilinear fragment of an openwork lead object. Two edges are straight, with diagonal struts between them forming triangles, but not enough of the object survives to reconstruct a plausible pattern. One of the triangles is blocked by a run of melted lead. The reverse is flat and the struts all have a D-shaped cross-section. This may possibly be a fragment of a medieval or early post-medieval ventilator panel or grille from a window (J. Cherry, Finds Research Group Datasheet 2, p. 2), which were in use from the 13th to the 17th century. Surviving length 28 mm, width 19 mm. 5.55g.

Lead ventilating panel from a window. The panel is square, slightly damaged at one corner and decorated with openwork tracery patterns. Decorative ventilating panels from windows have been found on monastic sites dating from the 13th to the 15th centuries. They are known from royal and archiepiscopal palaces and continued in use in farmhouses until the 17th century (Cherry, FRG datasheet 2).

Fragment of painted window glass. The glass is honey coloured with a golden mottled patina. The surface is decorated with a painted motif of perhaps a stylised leaf or sprig of foliage in a red-brown outline.
