Iron file fragment. Part of a wrought iron rectangular section bar with projecting tang of length 45mm. No trace of texturing remains on either side, though the mass may suggest significant survival of metal under a corroded and delaminating exterior. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1800. Iron file dating probably dating Medieval to early Post-medieval 1100 to 1600AD. It is sub-rectangular in plan and rectangular in section. It has a tapering tang which would have been inserted into a handle. The length is 250mm, the width is 23mm and the weight too heavy for scales. Iron file. Wrought iron whittle tanged tool of rectangular section, tapering towards a blunt or broken end at one end, and a pyramidal terminal to its tang at the other. The object is shouldered where it meets the tang, which presumably engaged a wooden handle. Faint traces of diagonal grooves on the four flat faces suggest the identification offered. The extensive survival of metal argues a relatively recent date. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1650-1850. Length: 132.5mm, Width: 13.1mm, Thickness: 9.4mm, Weight: 52.63gms.

Cast iron object of probable medeival date. It is sub-rectangular in plan, and rectangular in section. It has a tapering tang which would have been inserted into a handle. The tang is broken at the tip. The point of the object has been broken and it shows signs of corrosion. It was possibly used as a chisel or a file however it's function is unclear.
