An incomplete North Italian Marbled (marmorizzata) bichrome lion headed baluster shaped costrel (fiascha da viaggio), dating from AD1600-1650. This constitutes approximately seven tenths of the original vessel with only the neck and thick flanged rim missing. The vessel swells into a near spherical 'bulb' shaped body. Two sets of diametrically opposed lion head lugs are attached just below the neck and above the base of the costrel where the body of the vessel swells. A pottery barrel costrel of Merida red ware from Spain dating from the 16th century. The costrel is 325 mm long, 245 mm wide and 255 mm in height and at the neck, 8 mm in thickness. The fabric is a hard sandy ware with fine white mica inclusions and is reddish orange fading to pale orange in colour. It may originally have been coated with a thin layer of slip, but prolonged immersion in sea water has eroded the surface which is now coated with thin patches of marine salts and occasional calcified fragments of the tunnels of marine invertebrates. A fragment of a Medieval to Post Medieval, ceramic costrel, green glazed, border ware fabric, AD.1400-1550. The fragment consists of the vessel spout and two pierced carry lugs. The spout is circular and has been applied to the formed vessel body before firing. The outside has green glaze but this has been abraded. One of the carry lugs is damaged, these were pierced to allow a cord to be passed through to allow the vessel to be carried. The fabric of the vessel is creamy white and free of inclusions. A fragment of a late medieval (1400-1500) earthenware costrel, consisting of part of the body and the spout. Patches of dark-green speckled salt glazing is visible to the outside of the spout, which has crenellated edges (formed from finger/ thumb impressions). The fabric has numerous small, dark, quartzite inclusions and is off-white in colour. Measures 66.4x49.9x5.8 mm; inner diameter of spout 17.9 mm. Weighs 58.7 g.

The object is red earthenware consisting of a spreading foot, and a portion of the body with one of the lion head lugs, and is from either an ovoid or baluster shaped costrel. It has been manufactured in a red oxidised fabric with no visible inclusions. One side of the vessel has been glazed with a clear glaze that has hints of green.
