A lead alloy bucket. It has a circular base and probably conical sides, widening at the mouth of the bucket, however this is not certain as it has been crushed or possibly folded in on two sides. A section of the rim is missing, there is the remains of what was a handle on one side. Dimensions: It is 410mm wide and 250mm across the short, crushed sides, and 8.5mm deep

A complete cast copper alloy possible vessel/ bucket mount or escutcheon handle, probably dating from the Medieval/ post Medieval period between AD 1200-1700.  The mount is comprised of three loops integrally joined together and forming a trefoil design. The two lower branches/ loop protrusions are parallel to each other and slightly slope towards with a single hole in the centre of each protrusion, which still contain a copper alloy rivet. The left rivet is completely fused to the object, whereas the right rivet still swivels. At the outside edge of thes…

Incomplete and badly distorted object, a probable handle of an Early Anglo-Saxon stave-built bucket, a copper alloy strip of flat, rectangular cross-section, broken (not recently) at one end and narrowing into a hook at the other. The hook and the wide face of the strip lie in the same plane in the same manner as on the handle of a complete bucket from Morning Thorpe Grave 200 (Green et al. 1987, figs. 357-8). Weight 5.41g. Length c.115mm. Width 2.3 - 5.5mm. Thickness 1.2 - 2mm. Late 5th - 7th century.

A fragment of piece of probable Early Medieval copper-alloy bucket binding dating to circa AD 500-600. It is broadly rectangular in plan, consisting of a strip of sheet metal. Large transverse repousse dots run down the centre of the strip. The borders of the strip are also decorated in the repousse stryle with smaller dots punched through from the opposite side to the central, larger dots. Both edges terminate in old breaks. At one end is an incomplete circular rivet hole. Traces of iron staining are evident on the front face.  The extant piece is probably fr…

A fragment of piece of probable Early Medieval bucket binding dating to circa AD 500-600. It is broadly rectangular in plan, consisting of a strip of sheet metal. Its edges are bevelled, each containing a row of dots punched from the underside creating raised pellets. The extant piece is probably from a stave-built bucket. Complete examples are depicted in Cook 2004: 110-120. A similar fragment is recorded under NMS-E2EE82. Length: 30.6mm; Width: 12.8mm; Thickness: 0.9mm; Weight: 1.69g.

An incomplete copper-alloy Roman bucket mount, dating to the 1st-2nd century AD. The mount is in the form of a bovine swing bucket handle mount. The mount consists of a head of a bull/cow; it would likely have had a large loop above the head, which has been broken and missing. The front of the head has two horns protruding and sticking upwards, one of which is slightly bent back. The face of the animal tapers to a snout and has two eyes and nostrils. Part of the left side of the face is missing, just behind the left eye. The back of the head is hollow. The object is worn and …

Incomplete sheet copper alloy fittings from an Early Saxon stave-built bucket, with distortion preventing any estimation of the original diameter: - small piece of the rim covering, a curving strip broken at both ends and folded into a U-section, with a single rivet driven through from the inner face of the curve. - two hoops and two vertical mounts held together by three convex-headed rivets (a fourth is missing). Incomplete Roman copper alloy bucket escutcheon, inverted sub-triangular with an integral loop for the handle. Part of the loop and the lower end, the apex of the triangle, are missing (old breaks). The upper part of the reverse is concave, respecting the curvature of the bucket. Cf. Tassinari 1975, pl. XXVII nos. 130-7; Waugh and Goodburn in Frere 1972, fig. 41 no. 132; NMS-5825E6 and NMS-D75F24. Iron probable vessel mount. A wrought iron loop, bent sharply with flattened expanded opposed ends, probably to retain one end of the handle of a heavy bucket. The object retains a rectangular section for most of its extent. The mass suggests good survival of the metal core, and hence a relatively recent date. An assemblage of eleven copper alloy band or strap fragments, possibly from a stave built bucket. From the fragments it has been possible to adduce that at least some of the straps were originally 66mm wide, attached by rivets of pegs through perforations approximately 3mm in diameter, and probably originally reactangular in plan. There are no diagnostic features that can allow a reliable dating. The fragments could date to anytime from the Bronze Age to the Post Medieval. Suggested date range c2350 BC to c1850 AD Total weight of fragments is 68.23g.

Late Iron Age handle attachment fragment very similar to one found on the Great Chesterford bucket dating to the first century AD. The peice consists of the complete terminal and a short length of projecting arm. The piece has a circular terminal with a domed from and flat back and the remains of a copper alloy rivet though the centre. This rivet is probably seperate but this cannot be identified with certainty due to the modern preservative coating it thickly. Around the back of the rivet is corroded material which may include part of a copper alloy plate but again this is unclear…
