A complete cast and probably wrought copper alloy misshapen object of Unknown date. Length (if straightened) 102.0mm, maximum width 2.6mm and maximum thickness 1.8mm. Weight 2.89g. The object is slender and may originally have been straight. Throughout most of its length it is rectangular in cross-section but has rounded corners. From about mid-way along its length it tapers slightly towards each end. One end is curled over slightly to form a hook-like terminal. A fragment of a copper alloy figurine of uncertain date, possibly Roman to Medieval (AD 1-1500). The fragment is sub-square in plan and curves in profile. The details represent the top of a figure's head with forehead, hair combed back and the top of the ear visible. The hair appears to have been painted red. The patina is light green. A similar fragment recorded on the PAS database is LEIC-328D15. However, this example shows more detail in the hairstyle more securely suggesting the figurine depicted a Roman female. One side of the plate has slightly rolled up. The metal is a mid greyish-green colour and it is pitted. This object does not look Roman or pre-Roman in form, but it does not comfortably fit into a medieval or post-medieval date frame either.
