Object type: SHOT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete lead possible shot of Post-Medieval date, c.1600 - 1900. The object is spherical with a faint casting seam around is circumference. Diameter: 17.9mm; Weight: 32.5g. It is difficult to precisely assign projectiles to specific calibres of gun because most excavated shot will have lost weight, there was a huge variety of firearms, balls were imperfectly manufactured, and because lead varies in weight. The weight of the shot however suggests it may have been meant for firing from a weapon such as a musket.
