Copper alloy possible finger ring. Cast D-section band, slightly narrowed at one point which, if indeed a finger ring, would be opposite the bezel. The latter, and the rest of the band, is plain. Abraded. The wearing of finger rings was a men’s custom for the Romans, and this band would have to be for a youth or gracile individual if indeed worn on the finger. Suggested date: possibly Roman, 43-410 Diameter (long axis): 19.9mm, Band Width: 4.8mm, Band Thickness: 2.9mm, Weight: 3.08gms

Roman silver finger ring fragment of Guiraud type 2b. The ring retains only about 50% of the bezel and one shoulder. The bezel would have originally been oval with a recessed oval cell in the centre that would have mounted a glass or stone but which is now missing. Flanking the stone and running along the edge of both sides is a line of stamped annulars that are confined to the bezel. The shoulder is undecorated and narrows to the hoop which is now truncated. This is an addendum to 2012T279 GLO-E86407 and represents the missing second half of the ring.

An incomplete cast copper alloy late Roman finger ring. This consists of the all-metal bezel, which is flat in profile and oval in plan, measuring c.12.5x9mm. The bezel has the remains of a motif of dots, arranged in a cross shape. The bezel is flat and thinner than the hoop of the finger ring. It may be part of a keeled ring, although this cannot be said for certain as most of the band is missing. The shoulders at either side of the bezel are sub-triangular in plan: they narrow at the point where they join the bezel (c. 7.40mm width), widen again briefly to c. 7.85mm be…

Roman silver finger ring with intaglio mount. The top of the ring has a wide D-shaped cross-section with slightly flanged sides. In the centre is an oval cell that originally mount an intaglio which was held in place by a white paste. From the bezel the shoulders narrow down to the hoop, both the shoulders and hoop are undecorated and have a thick D-shape cross section. The intaglio is oval with bevelled sides and a slightly convex reverse.  The face is carved with a simplistic figure who is facing left; their right arm is held in front, perpendicular to the body and possib…

A fragment of a copper-alloy Roman finger ring. Only the shoulders and bezel of the ring survive intact, the remainder missing due to old breaks. The shoulders are flat, oval shaped in section and expand to encompass the oval shaped bezel. The bezel contains a central S-coil motif either side of which are recessed fields filled with the remains of red enamel. Adam Daubney has done some research into Enamelled Romano-British Finger Rings, where he identifies a classification, which would make this example a Group 5 'Curves'. He also suggests this design is typical of East A…
