Body to rim sherd of decorated coarse ware. The sherd measures 16.9mm thick and begins to curve over at the top suggesting that this is from the lower part of the rim. The fabric light-grey/brown in colour and contains frequent grit. The interior has a small patch of reddish patina. The exterior is decorated with a crude design of two transverse lines with a row of stamped incomplete ovals above and below. The ovals are very similar to each other suggesting that the marks were made by pressing a stick or bird bone into the clay before firing.

The surface and core of the sherd have been oxidised to an orangey brown colour. Very small sherd of coarse ware vessel, possibly dating from prehistoric times. The vessel was made from light orange/beige fabric with a number of larger inclusions. There are marks of brush strokes on both the in- and outside of the sherd. There are no remains of burnishing, slip or glaze and the sherd is very much unlike much of the Roman material from the area. Therefore it is likely that it dates from pre-Roman times.
