An Early Bronze Age copper-alloy developed flat axe, Arreton industrial phase, c.1700-1500BC. The blade is wide, but appears to have beren worn down unevenly, meaning that both tips are at a sharp angle. There is no sign of an edge bevel remaining. There are no side nicks at the junction of the haft end with the blade. Very low flanges (c.1mm high). There are convex sides with no casting flashes The butt of the axe appears to be damaged as it is uneven and worn. There is a similar, although larger, example in Rohl and Needham page 127, number 89. Length 51.1mm, width across cutting edg…

A fragment of a cast copper alloy socketed axehead of Late Bronze Age date. The fragment consists of part of the rim of the socket. There is a raised casting seam down the out side and a double raised band at the mouth, a large one at the rim and a slighter one inside it. The breaks on all sides are worn and the metal is dark brown with light green areas. The fragment is 28.6mm long, 37.6mm wide and 6.4mm thick; it weighs 25.28 grams. The double mouth moulding may suggest it is a South-East Class A1 type dating from the Ewart Park phase of Late Bronze Age 1000-800 BC.

Late Middle/Early Late Bronze Age looped Palstave axe. The axe has wide flanges and a pronounced square stop ridge which projects sligtly above the blade. There are air bubble casting flaws visible in the corner between the butt and stop ridge and on the side of the stop ridge; one very large. On one side are four faint, short, ribs below the stop ridge. The blade widens very gradually from the stop ridge then curves out strongly at the end to form a wide crescental blade with slightly chipped corners due to old damage. This pale, gold, matt rectangular fragment of gold has four sharp angled straight sides and two jagged broken ends. In places there are shiny striations and one of the side angles is dented. It was found 30m away from a gold strip (SUSS-9B98C6). This fragment of worked gold is not diagnostic of an object type. It is possible that it dates to the Bronze Age and compositional analysis could help define its age.
