Part of a cast, flat copper alloy palstave, dating to the Bronze Age. The axehead is small and relatively narrow. It is broadly sub-triangular in plan with a rounded blade. The cutting edge has a width of 34.9mm and a thickness of 4.8mm, appearing to have been chipped or damaged. From the cutting edge, the body of the axehead gradually narrows, linearly, with the faces and edges all being slightly curved. The axehead also gradually gets thicker towards the end of the piece. The butt has been damaged and broken off, the fracture measuring approximately 25m…

Complete unlooped copper-alloy Middle to Late Bronze Age palstave axehead. The H-shaped hafting channels at the butt are in good condition, with most of the original edges surviving on all four flanges. The butt narrows before a worn transverse break. The (abraded) stop ridge is slightly higher than the flanges. The septum is 57.1mm long. Beneath the stop ridge on both faces is a moulded shield-shaped pattern, bisected by a prominent longitudinal ridge creating a trident pattern. The ridges fade before the cutting edge. The crescentic cutting edge is jagged and abraded. There are no ca…

A copper alloy (bronze) palstave of Middle Bronze Age date, probably of the Acton Park II/Taunton metalwork style (c. 1400-1250 BC). The cutting edge has a crescentic form with the tips recurving back onto the expanding form of the blade, though one side is more pronounced than the other. The maximum heights of the flanges on both sides are taller than the stop ridge height, with the flanges forming a leaf-shaped pattern when viewed from above. The septum is U-shaped and is largely flat, though it tapers towards the butt. There is a casting pit on one side against the stop ridge. …

There is a deep stop on both faces of the septum with flanges running down each side of the septum. The butt has broken ends, and would probably have originally run to more of a point. The surfaces of the chisel have either dark brown patina or lighter …
