Part of a cast, flat copper alloy palstave, dating to the Bronze Age. The axehead is small and relatively narrow. It is broadly sub-triangular in plan with a rounded blade. The cutting edge has a width of 34.9mm and a thickness of 4.8mm, appearing to have been chipped or damaged. The H-shaped hafting channels at the butt are in good condition, with most of the original edges surviving on all four flanges. The butt narrows before a worn transverse break. A copper alloy (bronze) palstave of Middle Bronze Age date, probably of the Acton Park II/Taunton metalwork style (c. 1400-1250 BC). The cutting edge has a crescentic form with the tips recurving back onto the expanding form of the blade, though one side is more pronounced than the other. The maximum heights of the flanges on both sides are taller than the stop ridge height, with the flanges forming a leaf-shaped pattern when viewed from above. A complete Bronze Age copper-alloy, unlooped palstave. Probably dates to 1700 to 1300BC, when similar geometries were prevalent (BM Occcasional Paper 102 - Taunton, Acton, Arreton). The blade of the palstave is sub-trapezoidal in plan with straight sides and flared blade tips. The blade edge is abraded, and blunt.
