Bracelet 1 A complete and well crafted penannular bracelet with a band of thin, ā€˜Cā€™ section. The section is, however, thickest at the centre, thinner, rounded and highly polished along the edges. The band tapers gently towards the squared off terminals, which are defined by a narrow beading created by turning the metal outward slightly. The bracelet has many dents and scratches visible under magnification. Slight compression of the band around the middle has caused limited distortion and misalignment of the terminals. One of the latter is damaged by a small nick. D…

A gold fragment, possibly from a bracelet or torc, dating to the Middle Bronze Age, c. 1400-1150 BC (probably Penard phase, c. 1300 - 1100 BC). The fragment is broadly rectangular in cross section and measures 26.58mm in length. It has been loosely twisted, probably as part of decoration. The twist is regular which suggests this was part of the object when it was worn rather than occurring during later deposition. The fragment is ‘hooked’ in shape overall and weighs 8.35g. The break on the shorter end of the fragment appears to be cut. Dimensions: Length,&nb…

A fragment of gold strip or bar with a flared terminal. The strip has been coiled with the terminal on the inside. The strip is rectangular in cross section. At one end is a flared, flat-ended, terminal (approximately 4.5 mm thick) which is oval in cross section. At the other the strip has a deliberate angled cut. The strip is flattened from the terminal and expands in width to the cut end. The sides have been raised to create low flanges. This is slightly more prominent along the edges of one face (the outer face of the coil) than the other. The strip is 1.4 mm thick at the ridge…

Copper alloy bracelet fragment. A small segment from the cast plano-convex section band of a bracelet of estimated internal diameter c.100mm with alternating rounded drum-shaped segments and plainer sunken zones between them. The rounded segments bear traces of closely-spaced longitudinal grooves. Broken at both ends and fiercely abraded. The finder kindly cites LANCUM-F0B515 as a similar find of Middle Bronze Age date. The beaded form of bracelet also appears throughout the Iron Age, though rarely bearing the transverse decoration observed here. Suggested date: Middle Bronze Age,1600…

Gold bracelet fragment. Cast pentagonal-section strip, broken at one end and flattened to spatulate form at the other. The section is angular, with two low and probably worn facets on what is taken to have been the display or outer face, producing a gently keeled appearance. This is carried along the object to the spatulate end, which may therefore be regarded as a deliberately fashioned terminal to a penannular and probably symmetrical form, with its equivalent now lost. The object is now curved with two sharper and one more gentle bends, with two cracks near the latter. The finder k…
