A cast copper-alloy socketed axe fragment, found as a single find. The fragment consists of the incomplete blade and part of the faces of the axe; therefore the body and mouth do not survive. The surface of the metal is worn and corroded; therefore no casting flashes are visible. The blade expands at the cutting edge, but the socket does not extend into the blade tips. The cutting edge is corroded; therefore the original surface has been lost. The outer surfaces have a dark brownish-green patina. The breaks are well worn. Socketed axes date to the Late Bronze Age.

A fragment of a cast copper alloy casting or smelting waste, probably dating from the Middle or Late Bronze Age, i.e. c. 2000-800BC. It is likely that this is a fragment of a cu-alloy 'cake', ie the cu-alloy residue left over from the smelting process. This would then be broken into smaller pieces that various different artefacts can be cast from. Cake fragments such as this are a rare find for North West England. They are much more common in East Anglia as both single finds and in Late Bronze Age metalwork hoards. Dimensions: length: 27mm, width:13mm, thickness: 22mm amd weight: 19.4g.

Stone axe hammer, Group XVIII. The axe hammer is egg-shaped in plan and oval in cross-section, tapering to a narrowed and rounded cutting edge. There is an hour-glass shaped hole through the centre. This axe was studied as part of Cummings and Moores research into axe hammers from the East Midlands, and is number --- on the list.

A heavily corroded and fragmentary artefact which could be a small copper-alloy flat axehead in an early Bronze Age style. The axe is possibly a chisel axe used for fine carpentry work, but is could also be votive. The axe remains at a constant width towards the blade edge, the other end appears to have broken off but the breaks are very worn. The edges of the blade are straight. In profile the axe has a thin butt, which thickens slightly towards the main body and then thins again at the blade. The metal is mottled mid greenish-brown in colour and is heavily pitted. An Early Bronze Age flanged bronze axe. It has a semi-circular blade, which is chipped and blunted, and only traces of the flanges survive. Its condition is very worn and corroded with a pitted surface. The axe is of relatively small size, only 72mm long by 34mm across the blade by 10mm thick. It dates to the period c.1850-1400 BC.

Possible copper alloy axe or chisel. The object has a pointed oval socket with a slightly expanded lip. The socket has concave sides which flare outwards gradually towards the convex cutting edge. The concave sides have a slight lip to them which disappears once they meet the straight edge.
