Toffee coloured flint with cortex debitage. A thick flake with a tiny striking platform and a large bulb of percussion at one end of its ventral surface. A possible run of short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect occurs on one part of one side, where the cortex has been trimmed. The finder kindly suggests this may be of Mesolithic or even Palaeolithic date, but the tint of the flint does not appear altered by the passage of the significant period this would require so this reporter would favour a more recent date. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Length: 43.…

Copper alloy palstave axe. Cast axehead or sub-rectangular form with an expanded crescentic or lunate cutting edge. The object is of a lentoid profile with rounded sides and a wedge shaped flattened butt; the profile is reminiscent of the graceful form of Neolithic polished stone axes, and the form of the cutting edge also reflects these. A pair of longitudinal flanges pass between the butt and the flaring of the blade on either side, standing 2.8mm proud of the surface of the axe. Patches of glossy surface patina appear, though more has been lost than is retained. The cutting edge is …

Grey-brown flint with cortex, debitage. A thick flake with a broad flake struck from its dorsal side and with broad parallel flakes struck from its convex ventral surface. Two or three draughts of angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect appear at one end of the object, and the same edge is lightly battered. The form of the flint recalls that of a naturally formed pot lid fracture, though this may have been adapted; improvised or casual use may be represented. Suggested date: Bronze Age, 2350-800 BC. Grey flint with cortex patches, scraper. A thick chunk with large broad parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side by hard hammer, and with its opposite side [not here characterised as ventral as cortex remains on both the sides] stripped by multangular hard hammer working similarly removing large parallel flakes. The appearance of finer retouch probably arises from edge-on impacts and localised crushing of edges may arise from use of the tool. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Grey flint scraper, as kindly identified by the finder. A small thumbnail scraper, with a broad convex flake struck from its dorsal side and with a bulb on the ventral surface. Misty white patina has developed over the object, and is removed by very short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect. This may indicate the reuse of a small fragment of debitage. Grey flint with limited recortification, scraper, as kindly identified by the finder. An irregular trapezoid flake with large parallel flakes struck by unidirectional invasive angled hard hammer working from the dorsal side, and with an irregularly fractured ventral surface. The reformation of cortex is interrupted by this working, which may suggest the reuse of a previously discarded chunk. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Copper alloy socketed axe head. Cast socketed single looped axe head, lightly flared towards its crescentic curved cutting edge. The plain narrower upper and lower sides each bear a clear central mould line; the other broader sides are flat and plain. At c.50mm in from the cutting edge, narrow grooves of width c.4.5mm appear at the arises where flat sides meet, and these continue until 5mm before the edge of the socket. Grey flint with cortex scraper. A large oval flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side by multangular hard hammer strike. The ventral surface is smooth and slightly concave. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows a part of the curved edge, opposite either a striking platform or a flat butt. Misty patina has developed over all struck surfaces, suggesting the object has endured a period of exposure to a calcareous environment after its deposition. Flint with cortex, scraper. A small thick chunk with broad flakes removed from its dorsal side by hard hammer strike and with a flat ventral surface. The thickest end of the chunk has received short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect, producing a broad working face which was subsequently lightly battered. A dense creamy patina overall suggests the object has endured prolonged exposure to a calcareous environment after its deposition. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Copper alloy razor. A flat blade of elongated spade shape with an integral sub-rectangular tang. The object is probably cast, though thinned by sharpening. The cutting edges are slightly curved, as are or were - two being slightly damaged - the angles at the outer edges of blade and tang. The object is flat in section, though if the blade is held between finger and thumb there is a tactile impression of slight thinning towards the edge. The form closely resembles that of NLM-EF1AB4, which is identified as a Middle Bronze Age razor of Piggott Class 1. Suggested date: Middle Bronze Age, …
