Copper alloy spearhead. Cast socketed side-looped spearhead with an ogival blade with pronounced mid rib, and with a slightly flared socket retaining a partial loop on one side, and a complete loop made up of a flat rhomboid plate or scab of thickness 0.5mm elevated by c.2mm above the body of the socket on the other. The cutting edges of the blade appear lightly bevelled by sharpening, and the extreme point of the tip is lost. Broken in two pieces recently, though probably not actually at the time of its discovery; a ?third part of the socket appears to have been absent at the time of …

Grey-brown flint plano-convex knife. A small thick straight-sided flake with covering angled scalar retouch and a flat to very slightly concave ventral surface; the scars are mostly parallel, which might be considered a trait of Mesolithic work as might the concave underside, though the object type here is of the Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age. Suggested date: possibly Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Length: 27.0mm, Width: 14.7mm, Thickness: 5.9mm, Weight: 2.94gms

Grey flint, appearing brown under transmitted light; scraper. A thumbnail scraper with a hollowed dorsal surface and corresponding bulbar ventral surface, providing a convenient thumb rest. Invasive angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows a curved edge opposite the bulb. A crack running diagonally across the object may represent recent damage. Grey flint borer. A thick chunk with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side by hard hammer working. The bulbar ventral surface bears covering angled scalar retouch, executed in hefty drafts which have left a rippled surface to each flake removal scar. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Blue-grey flint possible scraper. A thick flake with a broad flake struck from its dorsal side by hard hammer, and with a prominent bulb on its ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows a curved edge. Misty patina has developed over the struck surfaces, suggesting a period of exposure to a calcareous environment. This is disrupted along part of the edge, possibly by battering or reuse of a discarded tool. The finder kindly suggests an identification as a tortoise scraper. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Length: 36.4mm, Width: 38.…

Grey-brown flint with cortex, possible scraper. A small thick flake with a little cortex trimmed by angled scalar retouch, and a limited zone of short abrupt retouch along one side. A bulb and ripples appear on the ventral surface. Some if not all of the apparent retouch could have arisen from edge-on impacts. Suggested date: possibly Bronze Age, 2350-800 BC. Dark grey flint with cortex; possible core. A long chunk with large flakes removed from three of its four sides by hard hammer strike. The aris between adjacent faces is crisp, and only a small pot lid fracture and a larger conchoidal scar appear to post-date the putative evidence for working. This may argue the recent exposure of this object. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Height: 62.7mm, Width: 36.6mm, Thickness: 20.9mm, Weight: 55.86gms

Black flint possible scraper. A large thick flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side by angled hard hammer strike, and with a bulbar ventral surface. A putative working edge [top] is battered. Conchoidal fractures and other edge damage may be naturally formed as these are common on unworked flints from the vicinity. Copper alloy ingot fragment. A fragment of a cast ingot with part of one straight moulded side and otherwise formed as if cast in a bowl-shaped hollow with a flat surface. The ingot includes flecks of charcoal, one or two shaped, and the broken edges of the fragment are rough and irregular. It is perhaps to be associated with another substantial fragment of metalworking waste from an episode of casting reported along with it. The hoarding of metal scrap is characteristic of later Bronze Age activity, while casting might be an occasional rural activity up to the centralisation of manuf…

Dark brown flint scraper. A thick flake with broad parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side, with a positive hinge fracture to one side. The ventral surface is trimmed by covering angled scalar hard hammer retouch. The thin edges of the tool are battered, presumably by its use, and a series of chips appearing on both surfaces may suggest recurrent edge-on impact was a feature of this use. Smaller flakes may have been removed by hard hammer strike from the ventral aspect, though these scars might include later adventitious damage. Short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect follows one curved end, possibly as reworking of a discarded and cruder tool. Suggested date: Early to Middle Bronze Age, 2350-1000 BC.
