Flint with cortex core. Flint pebble with broad flakes removed from two sides by unidirectional working from a flat platform. The object is heavily crazed, indicating it has been intensely heated. This would probably be in a hearthside situation, as the stone is explosively unsuitable for use as a pot boiler. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Height: 35.8mm, Width: 29.6mm, Thickness: 20.6mm, Weight: 24.30gms

Pale grey flint lithic implement. A D-shaped flake with its straight edge and butt formed by a positive hinged fracture. Broad flakes have been struck from the dorsal side with a bulb on the ventral. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows the curved edge except for one short extent, where very short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect modifies the cutting edge to provide a small scraping tool. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Length: 25.7mm, Width: 40.8mm, Thickness: 7.1mm, Weight: 8.53gms

Grey flint with cortex, knife. Flake with a bulb on the ventral surface. Angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect trims a patch of cortex, leaving a neat crescentic edge between the unworked and worked parts. Very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect may represent either the finishing of the cutting edge or its renewal. Narrow chips have also been removed by retouch or adventitious damage falling on the edge of the ventral surface opposite the cutting edge, perhaps to assist handling. Patches of misty patina on struck surfaces suggest a period of exposure …

Flint scraper. Short thick flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulbar ventral surface. Angled long scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows a curved end. A thick white patina suggests the object has endured prolonged exposure to a calcareous environment after its deposition. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Grey flint with cortex possibly collected from the East Coast, knife. Flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulbar ventral surface. Dense milky patina on struck surfaces suggests a period of exposure to a calcareous environment. The patina is interrupted by very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect following part of one long edge, suggesting the reuse of an old struck flake. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Length: 22.5mm, Width: 23.3mm, Thickness: 6.8mm, Weight: 3.51gms

Grey flint scraper. Oval flake with cortex patch with broad flakes trimmed from its dorsal side and a bulbar ventral surface. Angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows a curved edge, and this was subsequently battered on one side. Dense misty patina on struck surfaces suggests a period of exposure to a calcareous environment. Subsequent very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect has removed the patina from that part of the previous working edge which had not incurred damage. Both episodes may be accommodated within the Early Bronze Age. Suggested dat…

Flint scraper. Sub-triangular flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal surface by angled hard hammer working and with a bulb on the ventral surface. Angled scalar invasive retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows a curved edge of the flake. A chip to one side of the worked zone represents damage incurred in antiquity. Dense white patina on all struck surfaces suggests the object has endured prolonged exposure in a calcareous environment. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Sub-triangular flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side by angled hard hammer working and with a bulb on its ventral surface. Very short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect follows one straight side to form a cutting edge. As this interrupts patina, a previously discarded flake may have been reused. Pale grey flint scraper. Hollow scraper. A flake of irregular form with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a concavity on its ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows or defines a concave curving edge along one long side of the flake, and also trims one short edge. The opposite long edge may also have a smaller notch formed by short abrupt retouch, though a more gentle curved edge adjacent to this is fortuitously formed. Flint with cortex spots scraper. Thick oval flake with broad and narrow flakes trimmed from the dorsal side and with a gently convex ventral surface. A butt has been fashioned with short scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect; other retouch is angled and scalar. Damage on the ventral surface is fortuitous chipping. A creamy patina overall suggests the object has endured a long period of exposure to a calcareous environment. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Grey flint scraper. Small flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and a convex ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch and invasive angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follow a curved end. Copper alloy unidentified object fragment. Cast tubular object with a butted seam and an external U-section longitudinal rib of width 2.7mm along its opposite side. Torn and bent at both ends. The general appearance is of a distressed bronze spearhead socket, but the seam is an unfamiliar feature to this reporter, while the rib might be expected along the centre of a blade. Suggested date: possibly Middle to Late Bronze Age, 1500-800 BC. Length: 61.7mm, Diameter (clear of rib): 12.6mm, Thickness (wall of tube): 1.0mm, Weight: 13.55gms.

Copper alloy spear head. Cast socketed spearhead with a blade of leaf-shaped form with a prominent tapering mid rib which extends to the tip, and - joining, though found separately - one side of a slightly flared tubular socket. The edges, particularly the cutting edges of the blade, are abraded, with a patinated surface disrupted here and elsewhere. The socket fragment displays a perceptible aris between what may be the two halves of the mould, with the surface to one side of it here appearing flat on the outside. The short broad form may suggest this to be from a peghole fastened spe…

Flint scraper. Thick flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulbar ventral surface. Invasive angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows a curving edge. The bulb has been trimmed by a single angled hard hammer strike executed from the ventral aspect, probably to facilitate handling. Copper alloy possible razor fragment. Cast triangular section object with two angled surfaces meeting at a straight aris and a cutting edge which curves at one end to meet a straight back, which is indented, probably by fortuitous damage. The flat back may suggest the object to have been cast in an open mould. The form of the section and the lower side as cast appear to represent a skeuomorphic imitation of a flint tool, which might suggest a date in the earlier part of the proposed range. However, the use of metal for a relatively secular purpose would presuppose its wider availabili…
