A fragment of a copper-alloy possible Bronze Age axe. It is trapezoidal in shape, rectangular in cross-section and wedge-shaped in profile - tapering towards one end, which remains relatively sharp. There is a rough break across the opposite end and also probably along one side which is straighter than the other, perhaps indicating a deliberate cut. The surface is heavily corroded and these breaks are very well worn. An incomplete cast copper-alloy object of Bronze Age date, possibly a harness fitting. The artefact, which appears to be complete, takes the form of a truncated ring. This truncated side contains a rectangular-sectioned 'socket', aligned longitudinally. The ring itself is of sub-hexagonal section. Width: 29.3mm; height (truncated axis): 27mm; thickness; 9.7mm. Weight: 46.32g.

A fragment of Bronze Age socketed base metal found in association with LVPL-943AA3, treasure case 12.11 Wales. The following is taken from the 12.11 Wales treasure report, (Adam Gwilt, Vanessa Oakden & Mary Davis). This is an interesting fragment, possibly mimicking a prehistoric axe head in lead alloy. The fragment’s form has the general shape of a Neolithic stone axe head with evidence of some working to the blade area. As it is made from a lead alloy, it may date anywhere from the Bronze Age, through to the Roman occupation. Given that diminutive size of the piece, it may have been used as an amulet or votive offering.
