A pair of complete Early Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) copper-alloy tweezers dating to circa AD 43-1066. The tweezers are sub-rectangular in plan. In section, the arm end is bent out shape at a 90 degree angle to the loop. The loop is circular and contains the remains of a complete wire suspension loop. The suspension loop has two coiled ends to keep it in place. The arms of the tweezers flare outwards and the tip of one arm is folded inwards at 90 degrees.  The form and the inclusion of a slip knot suspension loop suggests an Early Medieval date. …

Copper alloy probable tweezers fragment. Cast triangular plate with a triple collar moulded on one side only separating it from a further extent, either a shank or, more likely, a narrow part of a blade. The form initially encouraged the recorders to offer an identification as a spatulate stylus eraser or terminal, but the turned appearance of the edge of the blade may suggest it to be from tweezers. Or, the eraser of a stylus was employed so vigorously as to bend the edge of the eraser and also break its shaft – this would be difficult, try it at home! Suggested date: Early Medi…
