A large, incomplete cast copper-alloy rowel from a rowel spur of Medieval date (14th-15th century). The central portion of the rowel is incomplete with only 50% surviving, along with five of the projecting points radiating from the perforation, the remainder missing due to old breaks. It is flat, circular in shape and with a central circular perforation. A copper-alloy Medieval to Post Medieval rowel from a spur, dating c.1300-1700. The rowel is complete with a six pointed star shape. The surface of each point is gently rounded in cross-section. In the centre of the rowel is a circular hole for attachment, approximately 3.55mm in diameter, from which radiate six grooves running to each angle between points on each side of rowel. A possible rowel spur. The spur consists of a hexagon shaped plate, from which six point protrude. At the end of each point forks into three points, equally spaced. At the centre of the plate is a circular perforation. Decoration in the form of concentric circles is present, running down each point from the central perforation. While some of these are faded, the design is present on both sides of the object. Likely medieval or post medieval in date.

Incomplete and distorted post-medieval rowel spur, one side missing its terminal, the other side a stump only, the neck and less than half of the rowel box. The breaks are old. The side, of D-shaped cross-section and decorated with a cable moulding along the convex outer face, is very slender, with a maximum width and thickness of 6.2 and 4mm. In between each point is a triangular groove. In the centre of the rowel is a circular hole for attachment, the centre is covered with orange brown iron staining. The rowel has a light green patina. The rowel measures 28.1mm in length, 25.9mm in width, 3.3mm in thickness and weighs 3.90g. Similar spur rowels can be seen in Read 2001, page 60 and 66.

Very close to examples from Beeston with Bittering (HER 4084 and 19547), West Acre (HER 3953), Exeter (Ellis, B. in Allan 1984, 341, fig. 192 no. 145) and Tathwell, Lincolnshire (PAS NLM4735).
