Incomplete and very small probably medieval copper alloy hasp from a box or casket. What remains is triangular, extending from a non-recent break next to a pair of transverse engraved grooves on the gently convex front along to a small rounded knop at the apex. Set longitudinally on the flat reverse before the knop is the stump of an integral, probably circular, loop. The object is very slight and can never have been very strong. One example broadly comparable in form (HAMP-11A131) is much more substantial. Weight 0.89g. Extant length 24mm. Width 6.8m…

An incomplete copper-alloy early medieval hasp in two sections. Overall the object is trapezoidal in shape with breaks across either end and roughly in the centre. The larger fragment has three sub-circular holes arranged transversely across its outer end, behind this a elongated semi-circular hole to either side and a small circular hole to either side behind this. The edges of two further circular holes can be seen within the break on each fragment. The smaller fragment has two small circular holes to either side. Surrounding these holes the outer faces of both fragments are decorate…

An incomplete cast copper-alloy, Anglo-Scandinavian object possibly a hasp though more likely a harness pendant dating to the period c.AD 900 to 1125. Description: The pendant is rectangular or slightly trapezoidal shaped and contains asymmetric openwork which could have represented zoomorphic decoration. The pendant is bifacial with seven lugs on both faces; a further nine around the edges set between gaps in the face lugs and the remains of two at the top. The sub-circular piercing at the top is presumed to be the suspension loop. Measurements: Width 24.4mm max, Height 38…

A copper-alloy incomplete probable hasp or fitting probably from a box or casket, of probable Early Medieval to Medieval date, about AD 900 - 1100. Trapezoidal in shape, its longest side is a break and features evidence of three rounded openwork apertures. The sides taper from the break to the complete end, which is a bar with a flat rounded knop at each end. The narrow bar is formed due to a sub-rectangular opening that is 12.8mm in length, and 5.6mm in width, positioned at the complete end. The hasp is decorated with four incised lines; two horizontal, running parallel to the e…
