Mid Bronze Age to Early Iron Age copper alloy socketed and pegged flesh hook. The hook fits broadly into Needham & Bowman Class 2. It consists of a 90mm long cone shaped hollow body with circular perforations either side near the top that served as peg holes. Socket diameter is 22mm. Near the base of the body there are two opposing projections in line with the peg holes. The projections terminate in vertical, almost flat, discs. A copper alloy handle for a tool or kitchen implement, probably something like a skimmer which used to collect solid foods from stews. It consists of a flat piece of sheet metal rounded at the broken end to form a socket and flattened at the other end to form a thumb grip with a perforation that is 3 mm in diameter in the centre of the rounded terminal, probably for suspension near the fire. An incomplete wrought iron double pronged artefact, consisting of the tip of a flesh hook, of probable Roman dating (43 AD - 410 AD). It is irregular in both plan and cross section. It consists of a slender iron rod, expanding at the base into a triangular shape, into two points extending out at right angles from the rod. It is uncertain whether the two points originally joined together to form a ring or whether they continued out straight to form hooks or not. Copper-alloy spike with curved tip and lozengiform cross-section, probably from a Late Bronze Age 'flesh-hook'. The spike tapers smoothly from 8.8 mm wide and 5.5 mm thick at the old and worn break, to a sharp tip. The unbent length is c. 105 mm, length as bent is 83 mm, height of hook from the horizontal is 38 mm. The curve begins at about 50 mm below the break, and appears to be original, having caused no stress to the metal.
