Early to middle Saxon copper alloy catch or hook-clasp for fastening a box dating to the period c. AD 650-750. At one end is a flat circular loop with a central circular perforation. The opposing terminal is similarly flattened, however, the loop is incomplete and may have originally termninated in a hook. The central part of the object is rectangular. The reverse has a projecting flange running down the centre. Similar in form to examples from Coddenham, Suffolk (SF-74FF25) & Easton, Cambridgeshire (SF-090F45). Another identical example was found 40m to the north in 2021 (NMS-A2F957).

An incomplete cast copper-alloy Early Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) box catch, dating to AD 600-700. It has a flat lozenge shaped plate with triangular keel on the front face set at an angle of 90 degrees to the plane of the plate. At one end of the plate is a circular terminal with central rivet hole, in which still rest the copper-alloy rivet; on the back face some iron corrosion around the rivet suggests that the support the catch was attached to might have been iron made. The other end is missing and it might have formed a hook, when complete. The back face has a recessed central panel. …
