Copper alloy mount. Cast concavo-convex naturalistically modelled mask of a maned lion with luxuriant tresses and ‘beard’ arranged in a sub-rectangular form to frame jowels, nose and brows projecting in strongly moulded relief. Extensive gilding traces appear on the display side. Two drilled holes of diameter 6mm appear at either end of the mouth, with a further blind pit behind the nose. Cast spherical one-piece animal bell, larger than usual, with opposed blowholes – though of the usual size – in its upper hemisphere and two larger opposed oval sounding holes linked by a sounding slot across the lower hemisphere, probably with a wider moulded border round it. A relatively small rectangular loop projects from the top. A medial rib marks the meeting of the hemispheres. Abraded. Lead weight. Cast pyramidal four-sided weight with a flat facet between each of its four sides and round its flat square base, and with a central longitudinal moulded aperture of diameter 3.8mm. Lightly patinated. The mass does not figure in a series recorded from medieval London (Egan 1998), and nor does it closely correspond to subdivisions of either Roman or post-medieval systems of measurement. An incomplete medieval cast copper alloy single loop buckle with its plate. The frame probably would have had a thickened and decorated front edge, however it has broken across both sides close to the bar which is recessed and offset and retains the plate which is wrapped around it. The plate is undecorated and tapers towards the rear end. A portion of the copper alloy pin is retained on the bar.
