Object type: STEELYARD WEIGHT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Lead cylindrical weight with the embedded remains of an iron suspension loop, probably for use with a steelyard or perhaps merely a standing weight. The fresh condition suggests it is post-medieval. Length 70mm. Diameter 24 - 26.5mm. Weight 712g. For a steelyard weight conformity with a weight system is unnecessary. At 25.1151 ounces avoirdupois and 22.8913 ounces troy the object evidently does not conform. 17th - 18th century.
