Lead window came fragment. A short length of cast H-section window came with a trapped fragment of dark degraded glass at one end on one side. Patinated. This came would have permitted the setting of two small adjacent panes. The glass is reverting to its constituent ingredients, which is a feature of a medieval ‘forest’ glass made using potash, rather than the more robust soda glasses of earlier and later times. The width of the slot suggests a thickness of c.2.5mm for the panes. The reporting of window came of medieval date among field finds is remarkably rare. Suggested …

Cast globular or bun-shaped whorl with opposed flat sides and with a slightly off-centre square moulded aperture of c.8mm square; patinated, with a cut by the hole on one side which might represent a tying notch. The thick patina points to an object of some age. An incomplete lead hooked tag of Early Medieval date. It consists of a circular boss with two pierced attachment loops, the hook is missing, with iron corrosion present around a circular hole in the disc. Decoration comprises a prominent boss in the centre of three sets of double-line in counter-relief. Hooked tags manufactured from lead are very uncommon, and it is possible it is a mould rather than a finished tag. Similar examples can be found on PAS (see NMS-412B7B).
