Obverse legend reads: + AVE : MARIA [GR]ASIA : PLENA : DN, depicting crown with 'AVE' inscribed across the body.  No legend (margin) on the reverse, which depicts a double stranded arcuate cross feuilly, with rosette at centre. An extremely Medieval French Jetton dating to c.15th centuries AD, probably a Tournai stock issue dating to c. 1415-c. 1497, but probably struck after 1478. (obverse as Mitchiner 1988, 223, ref: 651). The obverse carries a crown within a wire line circle, surrounded by the legend AVE MARIA GRACIA PL ERA DN On the reverse is a double-voided cross fleuretty within a double tressure of four arches. In the centre of the cross is a voided quatrefoil and there is a flower of three petals in each of the angles. The letters A-V-E-M are within the corners.

It appears to be a jetton associated with the historic Duchy of Gelders, probably dating from the late 14th century and issued by Mathilde de Gueldre (Duchess of Gelders, from 1371 to 1379).
