Object is a complete copper alloy seal matrix of Medieval date (approx 1200-1400). The seal matrix is circular in shape. The obverse features a central motif of a bird holding a branch? head facing its wing (possibly a dove or an eagle) set within a beaded border. The legend around the circumference reads X SIGILLVM AMORIS meaning Seal of Love. A bulla type, lead bag seal dating from the late Medieval or early modern period, about AD1890 - 1920. One side is impressed with a Star of David and the other side carries the number 166, 136 or 186. Seals with these markings are regular detector finds in Yorkshire and are probably from bags of guano or phosphate fertilisers. Leeds Phosphate Works used the Star of David motif and the number on the reverse is probably a batch number. The seal is 16.63mm long, 14.35mm wide and 3.38mm thick. it weighs ?g. A separate strip is present within the fold. The outer surface is stamped with IOSEPH / ROBERTS. The metal has a light white/brown patina and is worn. A Modern lead seal dating from AD 1850 - 1950. It is circular and there are two thick discs stacked on top of each other. Two short lengths of curved wire project forom the side. The top disc is marked in relief with a crown over three illegible letters or symbols. The first symbol resembles an upward pointing chevron. Measurements are; length 23.4mm, width 18.9mm, thickness 7.0mm and weight 15.97g.

A complete Post Medieval uniface lead flax or hemp bale seal dating from about AD 1700-1900. There is a slot of sub-rectangular section running through the seal from edge to edge.  The obverse bears a cross keys design, arms associated with the Baltic port of Riga. There is a cross abve the keys, and an I between the bows of the keys, denoting the grade of flax (see The Peacehavens Project: http://www.peacehavens.co.uk/BSTYPES.htm#CODEMOVE03). It is 19.4mm in diameter and 6.4mm thick. It weighs 11.4g.

A complete Modern lead alloy bag seal, c.AD 1914-1937. The seal for guano fertiliser is roughly circular in shape with incomplete edges, it is heavily worn on both sides, with some of the detail missing. Obverse: ANG[LO CONTINENTAL] / [LATE OHLENDORFF] / [...] Reverse: [T]RADE / MARK, cornocopia in centre It is unclear whether this seal still shows the Ohlendorff name, which would help to date the seal as later just the cornucopia trademark remained. Bailey (2000) illustrates a similar example on page 19, Fig.16.
